Lady Pumas Softball Team - State Champions!

by Carl Carlson
September 29, 2009

The Putnam County Junior High Lady Pumas Softball Team brought home the IESA State Championship trophy last night. The Lady Pumas dominated the championship game by defeating a very talented Maroa-Forsyth team by a score of 12-2. The Lady Pumas showcased their wide array of skills by making some outstanding defensive plays, laying down many excellent bunts, running the base pads, and driving in their teammates. It was truly a great team effort! The stands at Champions Field were filled and the fences were lined with Gold and Black. The support that was demonstrated for the softball team was just tremendous. I know I can speak for the players and coaches that they really appreciated the support given all year and that last night was the icing on the cake.

I want to congratulate the players, parents, Coach Walker, Coach Olson, and the fans for their accomplishments this year. This has been a very special season and it seems only fitting that our Lady Pumas Softball team be crowned as the best of the best in the state of Illinois. We are so proud of each and every one of you! With that said, it is very important that this effort and accomplishment receive special recognition. Mr. McCracken is in the process of making the proclamation that Friday, October 2, 2009 be considered Lady Pumas Softball Day. The final plans are in place to honor the softball team as outlined below.

There will be a student body pep assembly on Friday, Oct. 2nd at 2:30 in the gymnasium. This will be the time for the softball team to present all their "hardware" and State Championship trophy to the students at PCJH. The girls' basketball team will practice after school until 5:00. At 5:30, we will begin our Putnam County Community Ceremony. There will be a parade leaving the junior high. The parade will proceed to Route 89, turn left onto main street in McNabb (Jack's Gas), proceed west through town down main street, and then turn left onto Swaney blacktop, and end at the junior high school. From there, we will have the State Championship Trophy presentation on the Lady Pumas Softball Field to all those in attendance from the PC community. If the weather is an issue, the trophy presentation will take place in the gymnasium. Everyone is welcome to line the streets in McNabb and then proceed to the Swaney campus for the community ceremony. If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at the junior high school at 815-882-2800 x3 or e-mail me at carlsonc@putnam.k12.il.us. I would like to thank everyone that has donated their own personal time, money, and support over the past season. In the end, the Putnam County Junior High Lady Pumas are the Best of the Rest!! Way to girls! Congratulations!!

Also, I will update the attached picture with ones from the championship game and trophy presentation once I receive them from others who took pictures. Thanks for your patience and understanding on this.
