Jump Rope for Heart Update
Our school raised $2,423 for Jump Rope for Heart! The students and parents of Putnam County Primary are AWESOME! Donations have been sent to the American Heart Association. Thank you gifts will be arriving soon. Students who turned in $50 or more received a flyer from the American Heart Association to order tickets for the March 14 Quad City Mallards hockey game. By combining the donations of the primary and elementary buildings, our schools will receive a $200 gift certificate from US Games.
Kindergarten P. E.
Since the February newsletter, kindergarten has worked on various skills such as group jump rope. They played Couch Potato and Kid Cardio which are fun tag games that help the children learn about healthy foods and exercises and utilize locomotor skills. They also used foam paddles to strike nerf balls. The classes are working on developing movement sentences using locomotor and nonlocomotor movements while moving in different pathways. Kindergarten participated in Olympic activities such as skating, ski jump, skeleton, slalom, and hockey. Hurrah for kindergarten!
First Grade P. E.
First grade worked on group and individual jump rope skills. The students did a worksheet in class about activities for the heart. They also talked about healthy food. The students participated in Couch Potato and Kid Cardio which included Miss Flex, Mr. Muscle, and Kid Cardio. Students have been moving in different pathways using locomotor and nonlocomotor movements. They developed movement sequences or movement sentences using various paths, movements, and body shapes. Way to go first grade!
Second Grade P. E.
Second grade used group and individual jump ropes. They learned about healthy exercises and foods in Couch Potato and Kid Cardio. They did a worksheet in class about voluntary and involuntary muscles as well as contracting and relaxing muscles. They used foam paddles with nerf balls and played “tennis”. The children worked individually and in groups developing movement sequences. They made a beginning shape, traveled in a pathway, performed a nonlocomotor skill, and an ending shape. They moved in straight, curved, zig zag, and spiral paths. They also studied various qualities of movement such as vibrating, sustained, and percussive. Good work second grade!

Thank You Kids and Parents
Thank you for all the valentines and treats! Thanks again for your generous support of Jump Rope for Heart. Thank you for making sure that your child has a pair of gym shoes at school. Thank you for sending notes when your child’s activity needs to be limited.
I am an important part of your body. I am a muscle that works all the time. I am a kind of pump. What am I?
