PUTNAM COUNTY PRIMARY SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS
By Mrs. Marie Taylor

September 2010

Students at Putnam County Primary School have physical education with Mrs. Taylor on Mondays and Wednesdays for 30 minutes.  All students should have a pair of PE shoes that they can leave at school.  If students do not wear socks to school, they may want to put a pair of socks in their book bag to make their PE shoes more comfortable.  Please send a note if your child cannot participate in PE or if their activity needs to be limited.  Please send a doctor’s note for extended excuses.

WHAT ARE K-2 STUDENTS LEARNING IN PE?

Kindergarten, first, and second grades have learned that the words physical education mean moving and learning.  The students have learned to find a self space and how to move in their self space and in general space.  The classes have identified body parts.  The classes have been doing warm up exercises so their muscles do not get hurt.  The classes have been jogging to build strength and endurance.  Safety is emphasized in all activities.  The children have been moving a ball in different ways with their feet.  Cooperation, listening, and fun are also practiced by playing games such as Cat & Rat, Tag, Red Heart/Green Heart, and Cookie Monster.  Skipping is a great locomotor skill to perform.  Students share activities that they do at home.  Stay tuned for more learning, exercise, movement exploration, fitness and fun.
