As Spring approaches, I am increasingly aware of how quickly this school year is progressing.  I.S.A.T. testing begins this week, and next month the P.S.A.E. testing will be administered at the high school.  Our administration and teachers have been working diligently to make certain that all students have opportunities to improve in academic and social/emotional achievements.  Improved student achievement remains a district goal that is set by the Putnam County Board of Education, and our entire educational team is dedicated to that cause.

We recognize how crucial parental involvement is to the overall success of our students, and we are continuing our efforts to provide quality workshops for our parents/family members.  On Thursday, March 25, our P.C. Parent Advisory Committee is hosting our second Putnam County Partners in Education event at the high school.  From 5:00 until 6:00 p.m., there will be free food, provided by our business Partners in Education.  At 6:00, the workshops for parents and family members will be held.  Childcare will be provided so that parents have ample opportunities to attend the sessions.  There will be six concurrently running workshops on a variety of topics that were selected from the online parent survey on our district website.  At 7:00 p.m., there will be a community forum, allowing participants to discuss critical issues facing our children.  We invite all community members to attend, and we hope for excellent attendance at our “Hot Dogs and Hot Ideas” evening!

Our contract negotiations are continuing, and everyone is maintaining a positive attitude as we strive to work toward a mutually beneficial contract.  While negotiations are never easy, we are fortunate to have excellent teachers and staff who are dedicated to working with the administration and Board of Education to provide excellence in education in our Putnam County Schools.

Another project that we will embark upon in our district is an updating of our administrative procedures.  Our Board of Education recently completed an updated Board Policy Manual, and the administrative procedures work will provide clear, decisive ways in which the policy is implemented throughout the district.

As always, we appreciate the tremendous support of our schools and students by the Putnam County community!

Yours in Educational Service,

Jay K. McCracken, Superintendent
