Web Mail Login and Help

Teachers and staff can login to Putnam County Webmail at: http://putnam.k12.il.us

WebMail Pro is based on AJAX technology for application like look and feel.

  • right-click mouse for context menu
  • drag & drop to move, copy and create items between folders
  • keyboard shortcuts control the application
  • browser controls (Reload, Back, Forward) log you out!

 

 Window controls

  • Drag left/lower border of msg list to resize it
  • Drag lower-right corner to resize
  • Click [_] to minimize to dock
  • Hover the mouse over docked item for message subject
  • Click item in dock to restore
  • Click x to close

Note.
Keyboard shortcuts work only if message list is focused. Sometimes you need to click a message in the list first.

 

Email hints

  • To redirect a message, or forward it as attachment, use context menu.
  • To create subfolders, select a folder, right-click - Add new. Selecting account name on top will create folder on the top level.
  • To unflag a msg, right-click it & select Unflag or press "-" on numpad.
  • To sort msgs in list by sender, click the caption From, click again to change order.
  • To exchange columns, drag the caption to left or right.
  • To display msg headers, double-click the subject in mail view.
  • To create an event without leaving mail, select New - Event from main menu. This works vice-versa as well as for all data objects.
  • To enable HTML toolbar, select HTML from the upper-right corner of msg composer window.
  • To close Search window, click Search in top menu.
  • To sort or flag messages automatically, use Tools - Rules. They will work even when you're off-line and flags and folders will appear the same in desktop clients configured with IMAP access.
  • To blacklist or whitelist sender, drag & drop email to Blacklist or Whitelist folder

To create a groupware item with email attachments, drag & drop email to a groupware folder

 

 

S/MIME certificates

  • To sign message, first upload your private key to Tools - Options - Security. Then select Options in message composer and tick Sign checkbox.
  • To encrypt message, you need to have your private key in Tools- Options - Security and public key of the recipient uploaded in his contact properties - Other tab.

The recepient needs to have your public key in contact properties - Other (or in his email client) under your name and email to validate the signature or read encrypted message.

Public keys can be exchanged by uploading them to website and adding a link to it into signature, they should not be e-mailed.

 

Sharing

  • To enable sharing of your groupware, add your friends in Tools - Options - Sharing - Friends and check the share mode settings.
  • To access somebody's shared groupware, add their account in Tools - Options - Sharing - Shared Accounts and they will appear in the folder tree.

 

Calendar controls

  • Click to set start time/date of a new event
  • Hold and Drag to set end time/date of the event
  • Right click selection - select New to create event
  • Right-click event for context menu
  • Double-click event to edit
  • Double-click day label to add new all-day event
  • Click and hold event left-hand event bar (handle appears) to move the event
  • Click and hold left/bottom event border to change start/end time/date
  • To go forward/backwards by month/week/day, click the arrows at the top. You can also just click and then press Enter.
  • To be notified of upcoming events, set reminder to send an email, Jabber message or pop up a dialog window.
